Larry Kramer turns 80 with 'Love & Anger'
NEW YORK -- The new documentary Larry Kramer In Love & Anger, set to premiere on HBO on June 29, opens with footage of the playwright/author/activist at an AIDS forum in 1991. After being announced, Kramer sits silently for a moment, then abruptly begins shouting: "Plague! We are in the middle of a (expletive) plague!"
Kramer, who turns 80 on Thursday, has never been one to mince words. In noted works such as the play The Normal Heart (adapted for an HBO movie last year) and the novel Faggots, he has drawn on his own journey as a gay man to confront homophobia and the AIDS crisis.
