Introduction
John Wesley was an English priest in the church, a theologian (a individ who studies the nature of God and religious beliefs), and an evangelist. He was also the leader of a revival movement whose aim was to make Christianity a more popular and influential religion. To promote newly formed societies, he became a widely traveled itinerant preacher.
Born on June 28, (in new style calendar, March 2, ) in Epworth, Lincolnshire, England. Educated at Christ Church, Oxford, he was ordained (a process in which individuals are selected and are elevated from the laity (ordinary class of people) to clergy (referred to the upper class or special group of people who are related to the religious community) as an Anglican priest two years later. During this time, he traveled widely and preached Christianity, embracing Arminian doctrines (Arminianism is a movement of Protestant Christianity based on the theological ideas of Dutch theologians).
