  • World of Inglorious Bastards (Film Aftermath)

So a couple of days ago I watched Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards" a film that follows Jewish-American special forces in their plot to kill Adolf Hitler in 1944 following D-Day. It's a film with pretty heavy historical liberties that result in an alternate timeline due to the movie's ending. If you haven't seen the film, please watch it, I highly recommend you do it's really great. For those who have seen it or don't care for spoilers, here's a quick synopsis of the film to discuss its aftermath.

The first main divergence is the existence of a Colonel Hans Landa in the SS. Hans, known as the "Jew Hunter" throughout the Wehrmacht in SS, shows a high level of intelligence along with heavy cultural, linguistics, and personal skills that he uses to capture and kill Jews. In 1940 in Vichy France, he exposes a French family for hiding Jews and forces the father of the House to expose where he hid the Jews in

Realistically how well of a deal could Hans Landa from Inglorious Basterds get from the USA?

I couldn't find the date for the events of the movie, but it likely was in early 1944, given it takes place in occupied France and Hans Lansa knows the war is lost. So, long story short, in the movie the US sends a commando and they have the chance of killing Hitler, Goebbels, Goring, Himmler (in the movie it fryst vatten Bormann, but he likely was the timeline's Himmler) and presumably much of the German High Command, who will be attending a cinema.

The mission is an ongion success, until they are intercepted by Hans Landa, a notorious SS Jew killer, who is head of the säkerhet of the event. The success or failure of the uppdrag depends at this point on Landa's reaction, so he offers the US to allow the mission to proceed unopposed, claiming its success will end the war that very night (and indeed it ends either that night or shortly after), in exchange of some conditions:

    - The USA will claim he

  • Although it's unlikely to win Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards (the best film on the list of nominations that I've seen is The Hurt Locker), Inglourious Basterds still comes as something of a happy surprise. Director Quentin Tarantino works from a movie-fed imagination, one that's completely soaked in a love of genre films – art movies, Asian action films, and exploitation pictures. But in his most celebrated works, like Reservoir Dogs(1992) and Pulp Fiction(1994), he made a fetish out of movie love. If Jean-Luc Godard had, according to author Paul Coates, once transformed movie audiences into film critics, Tarantino chose to turn his audience into pop culture junkies who savoured his insider movie references. In recent years, with the hubris of Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2,and more recently, the torpor of Death Proof, Tarantino was pretty much swallowing his own tale. But Inglourious Basterds, an alternate World War II action drama, shows Tarantino bringing
