It began with an idea to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artistes, pioneers and scientists who have helped shape history. Today, Google Doodle itself is a celebration. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad
Early Life
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was born with the name of Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin on November 11th 1888 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. His father Maulana Khairuddin was a renowned Islamic scholar who brought Azad under his tutelage in his early years.
Azad however was inspired by the modernist writings of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. In his teenage years, he transformed into a dynamic journalist and published Al-Hilal, a Calcutta based Urdu newspaper that was subsequently banned by the British authorities. An active participant in politics from his ungdom, he became the president of the Indian National Congress on two occasions – in 1923 and in 1940.
Role in India’s Independence Movement
Azad was a very active leader of the Indian independence movement. He was a brief but active participant in the Khilafat Movement (1920-24), in the midst of which he held the post of the president of the All-India Khilafat Committee.

Google Doodle pay tributes to Urdu writer Abdul Qavi on his 87th B’day
New Delhi: Google paid tribute to Urdu writer, critic and linguist Abdul Qavi Desnavi on his 87th birth anniversary with a special doodle.
He was born in Bihar’s Desna by in 1930, he played a very vital role in the evolution of Urdu literature in India. He has written more than 50 books in Urdu. The great Urdu writer died on July 7, 2011.

Over a few decades he ruled Urdu literature and among his prominent works are ‘Hayat-e-Abul Kalam Azad’, which cherish the life of “Maulana Abul Kalam Azad”, A book on freedom fighter. In spite of these, he had various other major works which includeds ‘Sat Tahriren’, Motala-E-Khotoot Ghalib’ and Talash-E-Azad.
