    Richard Paul Evans grew up in a very poor neighborhood and had many challenges as a young child, not the least of which was being bullied in school for having Tourette's Syndrome. After graduating, he worked various jobs, and had some success in marketing. He decided to self-publish his first book, "The Christmas Box" due to the difficulties of being an unknown author. This was during a time before the internet was widespread and online publishing did not exist yet. He had to pay for it with his own money.

    Now, he is an international success. He has reached the New York Times Best Selling list many times, and is the author of the Michael Vey series. He is also the winner of various awards (such as the Storytelling World Awards, German Audience Book Award, American Mothers Book Award etc.) and four of his books have been produced as movies.
