    Plans for new patient towers figure prominently into the JPS Future strategi. Did you know this year marks the 50th anniversary of the existing JPS patient tower, which opened in 1971?

    Here's a photo of that now familiar building when it was  under construction during the summer of 1970.

    At middle right, the original hospital building on the site can be seen before it was concealed beneath future expansion. At the bottom right corner, part of St. namn Hospital can be seen where the JPS Patient Pavilion now stands.

    When it was built 50 years ago, the JPS Patient Tower was a huge leap forward in efficiency and patient comfort.

    John Peter Smith Hospital is part of the tax-supported[3]JPS Health Network of the Tarrant County Hospital District.

    The hospital has an Emergency Department, Trauma Services Department, Urgent Care Center and is home to Tarrant County's only Psychiatric Emergency Center.[4]

    Established in 1906, the hospital is named for John Peter Smith, a former mayor of Fort Worth.[1] Smith is considered by many to be "the Father of Fort Worth." He was instrumental in changing the Tarrant county seat to Fort Worth. Smith served six terms as mayor and donated many acres of land for public works projects such as cemeteries, parks, and the county hospital which bears
